TEAM PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION

WHAT IS A TEAM PERFORMANCE INTRODUCTION?

Imagine every athlete in your team accessing their own Peak Performance State in the same game, at the same time.

It is a fascinating possibility because you already know what your athletes are capable of. You have seen individual performances where everything seems to connect, when decisions become instinctive, confidence flows naturally and the athlete appears to have complete access to the ability developed through years of training. The Team Performance Introduction begins exploring how we create greater awareness and understanding of what allows that performance to emerge, so your athletes can begin developing greater influence over when it becomes available.

This is where more than 20 years of experience working with elite performers and 50 World and Olympic Champions comes directly into your environment. Your athletes become involved in an interactive performance experience where we explore how the mind can enhance or restrict what is already available physically, allowing them to begin recognising their own patterns, responses and internal states in a way that connects immediately with the performances they already know.

The purpose is not to search for what is wrong. We begin with everything that is already right… the talent, physical preparation, skill, experience and potential within the room… then explore what becomes possible when more of it can be accessed deliberately and consistently.

For one athlete, that can change a performance. Across an entire team, the possibilities become considerably greater.

HOW LONG IS THE INTRODUCTION?

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours for the Team Performance Introduction.

The time matters less than what happens within it. This is an interactive experience rather than a presentation delivered from the front of a room, which allows the athletes themselves to become part of where the conversation goes. Questions create conversations, conversations create recognition and recognition allows us to explore what is actually happening within the people who ultimately create your performance.

There is structure underneath everything I do, refined through more than 20 years of working in performance environments, while the experience itself remains responsive to the people sitting in front of me. If something matters to your athletes, we have the freedom to explore it. If a conversation opens a door that deserves to be followed, we follow it.

That is where an Introduction can begin creating change rather than simply talking about it.

WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?

The Introduction is designed to happen inside your environment, at your club, training facility, camp or another appropriate venue where the team can step away from the normal movement around them for a few hours.

Ideally, we want a private, quiet and comfortable space where people can settle into the experience, speak openly and become involved without feeling that they are performing for somebody else.

That sense of privacy creates a different conversation. Athletes can become curious rather than guarded, coaches can participate as people rather than titles and the room can begin exploring performance together.

For touring teams or organisations operating across multiple locations, the Introduction can also become part of a camp, pre season environment or another carefully selected point within the performance calendar.

WHO IS IT FOR?

The Team Performance Introduction is designed around the people who create the performance.

That will usually mean the playing group alongside relevant coaches and performance personnel, although the right room will look different for every organisation. What matters is creating an environment where the people influencing performance can experience the work together while still recognising that every athlete brings their own personality, history, internal responses and version of Peak Performance into the team.

We are not trying to make everyone the same. We are creating greater understanding of the individuals who need to perform together.

When one athlete begins accessing more of themselves, the benefit can be significant. When that begins happening across a team, individual change starts influencing the collective environment around it, which is where this conversation becomes much bigger than improving the performance of one player.

WHAT WILL WE EXPLORE?

We begin with performance.

Your athletes already know the physical sensations of performing exceptionally well. They also know what it feels like when the performance available in training seems harder to reproduce under pressure. The interesting question is what changes between those experiences when the physical capability remains essentially the same.

That gives us somewhere powerful to explore.

Through conversation, interaction and experience, athletes begin connecting what happens internally with what eventually becomes visible in their performance. Thoughts, emotions, expectations, unconscious associations and established neural pathways can all influence the state an athlete takes into a moment, which in turn can influence how freely they access the physical ability already available to them.

Once an athlete begins recognising that relationship, awareness creates the opportunity for something different. Rather than waiting for the right state to appear, we can begin understanding how it is created, what moves them towards it and what may be quietly pulling them away from it.

That is where the Introduction starts becoming personal… because every athlete begins exploring their own performance rather than listening to somebody else’s theory about it.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTERWARD?

Your athletes leave having already started.

They have experienced the ASW approach, begun looking at their own performance through a different lens and started developing awareness of things that may previously have happened automatically. For some teams, that experience alone can create conversations and changes that continue well beyond the room.

For others, what becomes visible during the Introduction creates a much larger opportunity.

That may lead into a Team Performance Intensive where I go considerably deeper into the people, culture, relationships and dynamics within the organisation, or eventually into a Performance Partnership where the work becomes integrated into the performance environment across a season, campaign or period where having that understanding available consistently becomes valuable.

There is no requirement to decide that before we begin. Experience the difference first, notice what happens within your athletes and then decide whether there is somewhere greater we can take it together.

WHAT COULD THIS MEAN FOR YOUR TEAM?

This is where the scale of the opportunity changes.

A small improvement in one athlete can matter. A small improvement multiplied across an entire playing group begins influencing considerably more than the individual performances themselves, because those athletes make decisions together, respond to pressure together and ultimately determine what becomes possible for the organisation together.

When greater individual consistency begins contributing to greater collective consistency, the consequences can travel far beyond a single game. Over the course of a season, performances influence results, results influence momentum and momentum changes what becomes possible when the important moments arrive.

For a professional organisation, those outcomes continue moving outward. They can influence finals, championships, promotion and qualification, while the experience created around a successful team reaches members, supporters, sponsors and commercial partners. It can influence attendance, engagement, merchandise and the value created around the organisation because performance is rarely contained within the boundary lines of the playing surface.

That is why the possibility behind Team Performance is so compelling.

The starting point may be 2 or 3 hours in a room.

The real question is what becomes possible outside that room when more of your athletes begin accessing more of what they already have.

INVESTMENT

Every Team Performance Introduction is arranged directly with the organisation so the experience can be positioned appropriately within your team, location and performance environment.

The professional investment is discussed as part of that conversation, with travel and accommodation arranged separately where required. The objective is to make the first engagement straightforward while maintaining the depth, personal involvement and performance focus that define The Athlete’s Secret Weapon.

Because before we talk about anything longer term, I would rather you experience the work.

See how your athletes respond.

Notice the conversations it creates.

Then consider what greater access to the performance already sitting inside your team could mean across an entire season.

Imagine every athlete in your team accessing their own Peak Performance State… in the same game, at the same time.

What becomes possible from there?
