Welcome to the Performance Centre

When you first sit down with me, one of the most important things I want you to understand is that your mind has far more influence over your performance than most athletes ever realise. Not because there is something wrong with your mindset, or because you need to somehow become mentally tougher. Quite the opposite. Your mind is already doing exactly what it was designed to do.

It is protecting you.

That becomes fascinating when we start talking about performance, because your conscious mind can want the medal, the contract, the selection, the championship or the result more than anything in the world, while another part of your mind is responding to the pressure, expectation and consequences that come with it. You experience that as nerves, doubts, fears, hesitation or overthinking, then naturally try to push through it because you know how good you can be.

This is where I want to show you something different.

Instead of fighting those responses, we start understanding why they are there. Once you can see what your mind is protecting you from and how that protection is influencing what happens when you compete, the performance you have been searching for can start to look very different. We aren’t trying to manufacture a champion or somehow put something into you that isn’t already there. We are beginning to release more of the athlete you have already spent years creating.

That is the connection I have spent more than 20 years fascinated by. Your body can be incredibly well prepared for performance while your mind is still operating from programs designed around protection. Bring those 2 parts together and suddenly we aren’t asking how much more you need to train. We are asking how much of everything you have already trained is actually available to you when it matters.

For 50 World and Olympic Champions, that conversation has started in exactly the same place. Not with me telling them how to perform their sport, because that’s their world. My world is helping them understand what is happening inside their head and changing the responses that are limiting how freely they can access what they already know how to do.

And yes, many of those conversations have happened in the same black leather chair you see throughout this website. It has been sitting in my room for 20 years now, so by the time you take your seat, it has already been warmed up by some extraordinary athletes who arrived with their own version of exactly the same question…

How good could I be if my mind started working with my performance rather than protecting me from it?

That’s why I see the Performance Centre differently. This isn’t somewhere you come because something is wrong with you. It’s where we become curious about the difference between the performance you have now and the performance you know is still there.

That difference may be the edge you have been searching for.

The chair is ready.

What have you got to WIN?

Competitive Edge Intensive

You already know there is more in you. Let’s release it.

If you’re considering working with me, I’m guessing you’re not here because everything is going exactly the way you want it to.

Maybe you know how good you are in training and you’re frustrated that the same athlete isn’t always turning up in competition. Maybe the nerves, doubts or pressure have started getting louder. Maybe you’re performing incredibly well already and you’ve reached the level where finding another 1% physically is becoming harder, while somewhere inside you there is still another level you haven’t accessed yet.

That’s where I come in.

I want to sit with you and understand what is happening inside your performance, because what you’re experiencing makes sense when you understand what your mind is actually designed to do. Your mind isn’t primarily interested in helping you win medals, break records or reach your potential. Its first priority is protecting you, and when the pressure increases, that protective system can start influencing the very performance you have spent years preparing.

This is where the Competitive Edge gets interesting.

Rather than asking you to push harder, think more positively or somehow become mentally tougher, we’re going to understand why your mind is responding the way it is. Then we can start changing the programs underneath those responses so more of the athlete you already are becomes available when you need them.

Across 4 phases, I get to know you. Not simply your sport or your results… you. We connect what is happening inside your head with what is happening inside your performance, then begin creating the changes that allow those 2 worlds to work together.

You’ve already invested years into your body, your skills and your sport. You’ve made sacrifices most people around you will never completely understand because you know what you’re chasing and you know what it would mean to get there.

This is your opportunity to invest in the part that ultimately has access to all of it.

For more than 20 years, I’ve been doing exactly this with athletes, including 50 World and Olympic Champions. I’m not here to tell you how to play your sport. You already have people for that. My role is to understand the part of your performance happening inside your head and help you change what is getting between where you are now and where you know you can be.

That’s the Competitive Edge.

And if you’re sitting there thinking, “That’s exactly what I’ve been looking for”… perhaps it’s time we talked.

Performance Partnerships

The closer we work, the more I understand what creates your performance.

By the time we are considering a Performance Partnership, we have already completed the Competitive Edge Intensive together, which means I am no longer starting with an athlete I need to understand. I know how you think, I have seen how your mind responds to pressure and we have already identified and changed some of the programs influencing what happens when you compete. You have also experienced how I work. While we are talking about what happened in training or competition, I am listening beneath the story to the thoughts, words, emotions and responses that created what happened next. That is where more than 20 years of working with athletes becomes valuable, because I am continually looking for the cause beneath the result and considering what we can change now to influence what happens next.

A Performance Partnership gives us the opportunity to stay close enough to your performance to understand what is changing as you change. Your results, your reactions and even the moments when everything feels effortless give me information about what your mind is doing and how that is influencing what becomes possible in competition. The more I understand those patterns, the more precisely we can work with them, strengthening the responses that are serving you while changing the ones that are limiting access to the athlete you have already built.

Over time, that accumulated understanding becomes incredibly valuable because I am no longer meeting your performance for the first time each time we work together. I know where we started, I understand what we have changed and I can recognise the smaller shifts that begin happening as your confidence grows, your results improve and the opportunities around you become bigger. We can prepare your mind for where your performance is taking you rather than waiting for the next level of pressure to arrive before discovering how you respond to it.

The question then becomes how closely you want me involved as we find out just how far that can go.

Bronze Performance Partnership

Bronze keeps me connected to your performance after Competitive Edge while the changes we have created begin meeting the reality of training and competition. What happens out there gives us new information to work with, so a breakthrough becomes something we can understand and strengthen rather than simply celebrate, while an unexpected response gives us an opportunity to find its cause and change it before it becomes familiar. This is where the work begins compounding because every experience helps us understand you more deeply and refine the internal responses supporting the performance you are building.

Silver Performance Partnership

Silver brings me closer as your results begin creating a different performance environment around you. Success changes things. The opportunity you once chased can become an expectation you now carry, while selections, rankings, contracts and bigger competitions introduce pressures your mind may never have needed to process before. Because I already know you, I can recognise those changes early and use my experience to help prepare your mind for the athlete your career is asking you to become, so you aren’t arriving at the next level physically prepared while mentally experiencing it for the first time.

Gold Performance Partnership

Gold is where the depth of our history together becomes one of your performance advantages. By this point I understand the athlete you were when we started, the programs we have changed, the responses we have strengthened and the person who is emerging as your performance evolves. That depth allows me to notice subtle changes in your thinking, language and reactions within the context of everything I already know about you, while looking beyond the next result towards the opportunities and pressures your success may create. Gold is deliberately limited and by invitation because at this level I am not simply helping you respond to your career as it happens. I am personally invested in understanding where your potential can take you and preparing your mind to be ready for the athlete we believe you can become.

Gold Performance Partnership… by invitation.

Present When Performance Matters

Stand tall… I’ve got you.

Some opportunities in sport take years to create and only moments to experience. By the time we are considering having me there with you, we already have a significant history together. I understand your mind, your performance and the responses we have spent time changing, strengthening and preparing for exactly the kind of pressure that now sits in front of you.

This is where the value of that relationship can become extraordinary. A result in qualifying can change the meaning of tomorrow. A brilliant heat can suddenly make a medal very real, while one thought between performances can begin changing what happens next. Being there allows me to recognise those shifts as they happen and work with you in the moment, bringing everything we already know about your performance into the environment where it matters most.

You aren’t investing in having me standing beside a track, sitting in a stadium or travelling with you. You are giving yourself access to more than 20 years of experience and our accumulated understanding of your performance during moments where one response, one decision or a fraction of a second can influence something you have spent a lifetime creating.

When the opportunity is that valuable, perhaps the better question is how you want to feel when you eventually look back on it. I want you knowing you gave yourself every reasonable opportunity to maximise the moment, rather than wondering whether there was something else we could have done.

That is when I become Present When Performance Matters.

Stand tall… I’ve got you.
