Gold Performance Partnership
When it means this much, choose who stands beside you.
If I invite you into a Gold Performance Partnership, we have already travelled a long way together. I know the athlete who first contacted me, although by now I also know the person behind that athlete incredibly well. I understand what you have invested to get here, what you have had to work through along the way and how much the future we have spent so much time talking about genuinely means to you. We have shared enough experiences for you to know exactly how I work, while I have had the privilege of watching you change, grow and begin accessing more of the person and performer you always believed was there.
That history is what makes Gold so valuable, because you are not making a significant investment in somebody who is about to start learning about you. You are choosing to keep more than 20 years of experience beside you through a relationship that already has trust, understanding and real results behind it. Everything I have learned through thousands of athletes, including the processes 50 World and Olympic Champions have trusted as they prepared for some of the most important performances of their lives, can now be applied with the additional advantage of knowing exactly who I am applying it to.
That becomes incredibly powerful as your world grows because success rarely makes life simpler. The performances you once dreamed about can create opportunities you never needed to think about when we began. Expectations can change, people can respond differently to you and decisions around teams, contracts, travel, money, relationships and your future can suddenly carry far more weight. At the same time, you still need to turn up to training, walk into competition and somehow retain the freedom that allowed you to become this good in the first place. Having someone in your corner who already understands what freedom looks like in you means we can keep bringing the conversation back to what actually matters rather than allowing everything happening around you to dictate what happens within you.
This is also where I want the relationship to become incredibly supportive of your life, because the athlete everyone sees is still carried around by the person nobody else completely knows. Greater flow away from sport gives your mind less unnecessary noise to carry into it, so the conversations we have may move well beyond what happened at training or how you felt during competition. Something happening in a relationship, a difficult decision, uncertainty about your future or simply feeling stretched by everything that success is bringing into your world can matter just as much as anything happening technically within your sport. We have enough trust by now to put whatever is happening on the table, understand what it is creating inside you and help you regain clarity and control before it begins influencing something else.
That control is important because Gold cannot remove pressure from elite performance and I would never pretend that it can. What it can give you is a far greater understanding of yourself when pressure arrives, supported by someone who has spent more than 20 years observing how people respond when something matters enormously to them. Instead of becoming caught inside the reaction, we can recognise what is happening, understand the cause and decide what needs to change so that you can return to the state that gives you access to everything you have worked so hard to develop.
There is enormous reassurance in knowing that support is already there before you need it. You do not have to wait until something becomes a problem or begin searching for somebody when your world suddenly changes. You have a person who remembers the conversations that came before the result, understands the patterns underneath your performance and knows enough about your life to appreciate why something that may appear insignificant to everybody else matters enormously to you. Sometimes that accumulated understanding means a conversation can move very quickly because you don’t need to spend half of it explaining the backstory. We already have the backstory, so we can focus on what is happening now and what gives you the greatest opportunity to move forward.
The same applies when everything is going brilliantly, because Gold is certainly not built around waiting for something to go wrong. Some of my favourite conversations throughout my career have happened when an athlete has just done something extraordinary and we have been able to enjoy the moment together while understanding what helped create it. Success gives us information too, and the better we become at recognising what allows you to feel free, confident and completely connected to your performance, the more opportunity we have to make those responses familiar rather than leaving another great performance to chance.
That is where the investment begins to mature. What we develop together is not consumed when the next competition finishes because every piece of understanding you gain about yourself becomes something you carry forward. The ability to regulate your state before a major performance can later help you steady yourself before an important decision. Understanding why your mind reacts to uncertainty can change how you approach opportunity outside sport. Learning how to separate external noise from what genuinely matters to you can influence your relationships, your career and eventually the transition into whatever life becomes after competition.
I think that matters because I have never been interested in helping somebody become an extraordinary athlete at the expense of the human being who has to live the life surrounding that success. Gold gives us the opportunity to build both together. You can chase something enormous while still enjoying the people you love, laughing, switching off and experiencing the life your talent and hard work are creating. As your success increases, I want your capacity to comfortably live inside that success increasing with it, because the greatest outcome is not simply being capable of reaching the top. It is being able to stand there, feel like yourself and genuinely enjoy the view.
This is why Gold represents a serious commitment from both of us. It isn’t available through an application form and it isn’t the next level you automatically move into after Silver. I will only invite you when the work we have already done together gives me enough understanding to believe that a deeper commitment of my time, experience and support can genuinely add value to where your performance and your life are heading. By then, you will know me well enough to decide whether having that depth of support around you carries the same value from your side.
If we make that commitment together, I want you to look back on the decision very differently as the years pass. Perhaps the immediate return will be a performance that changes your career, or perhaps it will be a series of smaller changes that gradually alter what becomes possible. The deeper return may only become obvious later, when you realise how differently you handle pressure, how much clearer your decisions have become and how comfortably you can stand inside opportunities that the earlier version of you once found intimidating.
And one day, when the sporting chapter eventually changes, I hope you look at the life surrounding everything you achieved and recognise that the investment continued paying you long after the crowds went home. The results belong in the record books, while the understanding, confidence, control and person you became through creating them remain yours.
That is when I want you to remember the conversation that started Gold and be incredibly pleased that, when the opportunity was placed in front of you, you chose to make the call.
Gold Performance Partnership is available by personal invitation only.
